Store trainers [Dec. 23rd, 2005|08:28 pm]

[music |Heaven knows I'm miserable now -- The Smiths]

I heard a rumor about doing away with the store trainer program a while back, but I think it was reconsidered and they just got rid of divisional trainers? I'm hearing about this again at my store that, starting Monday, the store trainer position will no longer exist. Can anybody confirm or negate this rumor? It would sorta suck to lose this. Managers don't train. It seems unfair to have former store trainers train without that raise. Most associates don't really have the patience, or general knowledge to thoroughly train a position, and to boot would probably take forever to complete checklists. So... Hm. I kinda have my doubts that this is gonna happen on second thought. Afterall, TRAINING IS OUR FUTUREOMG.

Christmas raise [Dec. 23rd, 2005|06:26 pm]

I got passed off as a cook today! = D I showed up late for work, got a parking ticket, had to work a morning shift when I'm a closer, and had a stomach ache. My store (The Wharf now, used to be 159) doesn't have a drive (so one printer and all green tags), and it was slow for a Friday (biggest half was 130 burgers), but we still had two grills open, neither of us passed off. I could barely get to three rows without the wheel disappearing for most of the rush. It was sorta moments of OMG, what am I gonna do with all this extra meat divided into two grills followed by big grill cheese, veggie, and fry animal orders, and then loads of cheeseburgers. The hardest part was running back and forth between the grills with tags in my hands while still not burning my meat, but I finally got wheeled by a dub rush and showed off my four row skillz0rz, and now I'm a cook and I guess that sorta makes up for the parking ticket. The end. Happy holidays, everyone = )

Us Bums are Great at 188! [Dec. 11th, 2005|11:42 pm]

Friday morning I started at nine. I get there like, 5 minutes after I wake up, and when I open the girls locker room door, there's Matt, one of our cleanup guys, digging through the dirty linen. Now, I'm still asleep, so I don't think its odd for him to be digging through dirty clothes, I just think "hey, your not a girl..." He says, "You might wanna get your stuff and change in the guy's cause I'm gonna be here a while" And why? "Nicole lost the safe key" Nicole is our new 4th mananger. Mike, our second is not too happy about this, since he can't get ahold of nicole to ask her about the key, and Richard, the store manager is on a plane to cali, so he can't get ahold of him either to ask for his key. After digging through all the dirty linen AND the last night's trash, Mike calls 186 to see if he can borrow a couple drawers so we can at least open. They can only lend us 2, so we totally ghetto rigged the other two drawers. 2 brown boxes, and 4 our 9's cut in half make a freakin' awesome drawer. Too bad we couldn't get a picture of it. Finally, we're able to get richard's key from his house, like an hour after we open. And wouldn't you know it? The other safe key was INSIDE the safe. She freakin locked the key in the safe. Oh what fun we have in Nevada.

A bit of help for my thesis? [Dec. 7th, 2005|05:56 pm]

Hello everyone! I'm hoping that some of you can help me out.

I'm a Southern California native who is studying Architecture and Urban Design at NYU. This is my last year, and I'm working on an honors thesis about suburban subdivision housing, specifically ways to bring a little bit of aesthetic diversity to it. You know, examining the ways that cookie-cutter tract housing like this...

...can change.

So, what I am looking for is a few good people who live in neighborhoods like this that I can interview during the first two weeks of January, when I'll be back West. It's a purely academic paper and it shouldn't take all that long. If you are interested or know of someone who is, then please respond to this post or email me at iank@nyu.edu.

Thanks very much!

I gave my DM my schedule for this week and the next to come and watch me for my cooking raise today! Now I have to remember to keep a clean apron, and not forget to shave, and probably shower every morning (well, evening cause I'm a friggin closer and what closer ever wakes up before 3 pm when they have nothing else planned), too. Ugh! Yay! I feel like I should be doing stuff to prepare for this, but this is the most prepared I've ever felt for any of my raises, since we only have one passed off cook at our store. Fries was alright, but it was sort of a surprise raise 'cause they left me alone all day and the second got approval to give it to me. The drive and board were DISASTERS before and even a little after my raises (but now they're like my two favorite positions ever). Anyway, gimme tips so i don't embarrass myself, please = D Anyone know what Michael Bell looks for in particular?

This morning I was going to make sides of spread. I go to get lids and the little cup things, and see that there's no open box of cups. So I get the little step ladder and climb up to get them. I get hold of the box and pull it forward and starts tipping over. Turns out that the box WAS open. But on top. I get showered with sleeves of cups. But wait, theres more. SOMEONE had put and OPEN sleeve in the box, and I got showered with little plastic cups. I know its a lot funnier if you had seen it. But I really wanted to share.
